Hi,
My name is Louisa, and I’m a high school student in Nairobi organising Athena Nairobi, part of the Athena Initiative by Hack Club to create a space where girls can write their first lines of code confidently. This event is supported by incredible people such as SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell, Twitter Founder Jack Dorsey and Github Director of Engineering Christina Entcheva, and is the first-ever Athena event to take place outside continental America.
Athena Nairobi includes a free dinner on the 7th of March at Slate Kitchen Nairobi to connect the organising team with women in tech and we’d love to extend an invitation to women at Microsoft to join us to inspire and connect with girls interested in pursuing a career in tech.
For the main event, on the 8th of March, we are hosting a social coding event where Hack Club high school students provide a day of coding mentorship to participants and help them write code confidently in a judgement-free and supportive space.
We want to create a magical experience for young girls interested in tech and we believe Microsoft could help us make that a reality. We want to ensure the tech industry is diverse and everyone gets an opportunity to thrive. ****I was fortunate to visit the ADC offices in late 2023 and it would suit our needs perfectly for this event! Would Microsoft ADC be open to sponsoring the event by providing a venue on the 8th of March?
I would be happy to discuss this in more details with you if it is something Microsoft is interested in! Please let me know if you have any questions or if you’d like to have a meeting to discuss this more. Thank you so much!
Warm Regards, Louisa Mulei
Hi Jay,
I’m Louisa, I reached out a couple of months ago when I was organising the Counterspell Game Jam (which was a success!). I am now organising Athena Nairobi, part of the Athena Initiative by Hack Club to create a space where girls can write their first lines of code confidently. This event is supported by incredible people such as SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell, Snapchat AR pioneers the Liberman siblings, and Director of Engineering at GitHub Christina Entcheva. This is the first-ever Athena event to take place outside continental America.
Athena Nairobi includes a free dinner on the 7th of March at Slate Kitchen to connect the organising team with women in tech and we’d love to extend an invitation to any women you know in game development to join us to inspire and connect with girls interested in pursuing a career in tech.
For the main event, on the 8th of March, we are hosting a social coding event where participants can get mentored through workshops (such as how to make games for the Sprig game console), connect with other girls interested in tech and write code in a judgement free space.
We want to create a magical experience for young girls interested in tech and we believe Nairobi Game Development Center could help us make that a reality. Would Nairobi Game Development Center be open to sponsoring the event by providing the venue on the 8th of March?
I would be happy to discuss this in more details with you if it is something Nairobi Game Development Center is interested in! Please let me know if you have any questions or if you’d like to have a meeting to discuss this more. Thank you so much!
